Plain terms for the public alpha.

What Ekko is. Public-alpha software: a browser extension that seals messages on your device, an optional account and directory service, and a newsletter for product updates. It is under active development; things may change, break, or be reset during the alpha.

Your keys, your responsibility. Private keys are generated on your device and sealed by your passphrase. They never reach us, so if you lose both the device and the passphrase, no one, including us, can recover your messages. That is a feature, and it means backups are on you.

Handles. Handles are first-come during the beta. Don't claim handles to impersonate people or to squat names you have no claim to. We may reclaim handles that are clearly deceptive or abusive.

Acceptable use. Don't use Ekko to break the law, and don't attack the service: no scraping the directory, no flooding the signup form or the bug reports, no probing keys that aren't yours. The apps Ekko rides on have their own terms; your accounts there stay your responsibility.

Other people's trademarks. Ekko is independent software. Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, X and the other names on this site belong to their owners. We use them to describe compatibility, not to claim affiliation or endorsement.

Newsletter. Subscribing stores the email address you give us so we can send release news and your install link. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe. Details live in the privacy policy.

No warranties, limited liability. Ekko is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from beta use. Cryptography reduces risk; it cannot make any promise absolute.

Changes. These terms will evolve with the product. The date above always reflects the current version, and using Ekko after a change means you accept it.
